for it is written,
1"'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,'

and
2"'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

And Jesus answered him,
"It is said, 3'You shall not 4put the Lord your God to the test.'"

And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him
5until an opportune time.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
14 6And Jesus returned
7in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and
8a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.

And
9he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
16 10And he came to
11Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And
12as was his custom,
13he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up
14to read.

And
15the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

16"The Spirit of the Lord 17is upon me, because he has anointed me to 18proclaim good news to the poor. 19He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and 20recovering of sight to the blind, 21to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

22to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and
23sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were
24fixed on him.
