You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of 1the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.

2"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like 3whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and 4all uncleanness.

So you also 5outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of 6hypocrisy and lawlessness.

7"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,

saying, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'

Thus you witness against yourselves that you are 8sons of those who murdered the prophets.

You serpents, 10you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to 11hell?

12Therefore 13I send you 14prophets and wise men and 15scribes, 16some of whom you will kill and crucify, and 17some you will 18flog in your synagogues and 19persecute from town to town,

so that on you may come all 20the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of innocent 21Abel to the blood of 22Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[a] whom you murdered between 23the sanctuary and 24the altar.

Truly, I say to you, 25all these things will come upon this generation.#rl
