Psalms 62:6-12

6 1He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my 2salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, 3my refuge is God.
8 4Trust in him at all times, O people; 5pour out your heart before him; God is 6a refuge for us. Selah
9 7Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate 8are a delusion; in the balances they go up; 9they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion; 10set no vain hopes on robbery; 11if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
11 12Once God has spoken; 13twice have I heard this: that 14power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, 15belongs steadfast love. For you will 16render to a man according to his work.

Psalms 62:6-12 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, [A Psalm] of David. Concerning "Jeduthun," See Gill on "Ps 39:1," title. Kimchi thinks this psalm was written concerning the captivity; and Jarchi twtdh le, concerning the decrees and judgments made against Israel by their enemies; and so some of their ancient expositions {d}; but it seems to have been composed by David when in distress, either through Saul and his courtiers, or by reason of the conspiracy of Absalom. Theodoret takes it to be a prophecy of the persecution of Antiochus in the times of the Maccabees.

{d} Vid. Yalkut Simeoni in loc.
