So I have come down1 to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land,2 a land flowing with milk and honey3--the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites4 and Jebusites.5
God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD,c the God of your fathers15--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob16--has sent me to you.' This is my name17 forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.18
The Hebrew for "LORD" sounds like and may be derived from the Hebrew for "I AM" in verse 14.
"Go, assemble the elders19 of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob20--appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen21 what has been done to you in Egypt.
"The elders of Israel will listen24 to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews,25 has met26 with us. Let us take a three-day journey27 into the desert to offer sacrifices28 to the LORD our God.'
