Ezekiel 27:35 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 27:35

All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee,
&c.] Both near and afar off; and not only the inhabitants of the isles, properly so called, but all that dwelt on the continent by the seaside; who would all be amazed when they heard of the ruin of Tyro, which they thought inexpugnable, by reason of its natural and artificial strength: and their kings shall be sore afraid;
that it will be their turn next; and as well knowing that they were less able to contend with so mighty a monarch as the king of Babylon, or Alexander the great, than Tyre was; see ( Revelation 18:9 Revelation 18:10 ) : they shall be troubled in their countenance;
their inward passions of grief and fear shall be seen in their countenances; which will wax pale, be dejected, distorted, and furrowed.

Ezekiel 27:35 In-Context

33 When your merchandise went overseas, You filled the needs of every nation. Kings were made rich By the wealth of your goods.
34 Now you are wrecked in the sea; You have sunk to the ocean depths. Your goods and all who worked for you Have vanished with you in the sea.'
35 "Everyone who lives along the coast is shocked at your fate. Even their kings are terrified, and fear is written on their faces.
36 You are gone, gone forever, and merchants all over the world are terrified, afraid that they will share your fate."
