1 Kings 14:28

28 Whenever the king went into the LORD's temple, guards carried the shields and then returned them to the guardroom.

1 Kings 14:28 Meaning and Commentary

1 Kings 14:28

And it was so, when the king went into the house of the Lord,
&c.] The temple; for though he had fallen into idolatry, he had not wholly forsaken the worship of God in the temple, and perhaps by the late humbling providence he might be stirred up to attend there more frequently:

that the guard bare them:
before him, partly for pomp and grandeur, and partly to keep in awe such as were inclined to mutiny and sedition:

and brought them back into the guard chamber;
when the king returned, the place where the guard lodged and slept by turns.

1 Kings 14:28 In-Context

26 He took the treasures from the LORD's temple and the royal palace. He took them all. He took all the gold shields Solomon had made.
27 So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and put them by the entrance to the royal palace, where the captains of the guards were stationed.
28 Whenever the king went into the LORD's temple, guards carried the shields and then returned them to the guardroom.
29 Isn't everything else concerning Rehoboam--everything he did--written in the official records of the kings of Judah?
30 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam as long as they lived.
