1 Kings 20:43 Meaning and Commentary

1 Kings 20:43

And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased,
&c.] With the prophet for what he had said, and with himself for what he had done in letting Benhadad go; the Targum is, he was

``troubled and grieved,''

not so much for the sin he had committed, as for the punishment of it on him and his people:

and came to Samaria;
with a heavy heart, for the message of the prophet had spoiled the joy of his victory.

1 Kings 20:43 In-Context

41 Then he quickly took the bandage off his eyes. The king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.
42 The prophet told him, "This is what the LORD says: You let the man go. He was claimed by God and should have been killed. For that reason your life will be taken in place of his life and your people in place of his people."
43 Resentful and upset, the king of Israel went home to Samaria.
