Mark 10:8 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 10:8

And the twain shall be one flesh

so then they are no more twain; but one flesh;
as Adam and Eve were both by creation and marriage: and so two persons, a man and woman, being lawfully married together, become one flesh, or "one body", as the Arabic and Persic versions render the phrase; and therefore the wife is to be loved by the husband as his own body, and from whom there should be no separation, until death, but in case of adultery; (See Gill on Matthew 19:6).

Mark 10:8 In-Context

6 But God made them male and female in the beginning, at creation.
7 That's why a man will leave his father and mother and will remain united with his wife,
8 and the two will be one. So they are no longer two but one.
9 Therefore, don't let anyone separate what God has joined together."
10 When they were in a house, the disciples asked him about this.
