Mark 3:34 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 3:34

And he looked round about on them which sat about him
To find out his disciples among them, and point them out particularly, by stretching forth his hand towards them: and said,

behold my mother and my brethren:
not in a natural, but in a spiritual sense; his mother, because, in regeneration, he was formed in them; his brethren, because, by adoption, his God was their God, his Father their Father; (See Gill on Matthew 12:49).

Mark 3:34 In-Context

32 The crowd sitting around Jesus told him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you."
33 He replied to them, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"
34 Then looking at those who sat in a circle around him, he said, "Look, here are my mother and my brothers.
35 Whoever does what God wants is my brother and sister and mother."
