By faith the people passed through the Red Seaa as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.130
By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.231
By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.b332
And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon,4 Barak,5 Samson,6 Jephthah,7 David,8 Samuel9 and the prophets,
who through faith conquered kingdoms,10 administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,1134
quenched the fury of the flames,12 and escaped the edge of the sword;13 whose weakness was turned to strength;14 and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.1535

They were stonedc;19 they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword.20 They went about in sheepskins and goatskins,21 destitute, persecuted and mistreated--

These were all commended23 for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.24
