2 Chronicles 24:24 Meaning and Commentary

2 Chronicles 24:24

For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men,
&c.] It consisted but of few:

and the Lord delivered a very great host into their hand;
which the king of Judah and his princes had got together to oppose them:

because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers;
therefore the Lord forsook them, and gave them up into the hand of their enemies:

so they executed judgment against Joash;
were the instruments God made use of to execute his vengeance on him for his idolatry and murder.

2 Chronicles 24:24 In-Context

22 Thus Yo'ash the king didn't remember the kindness which Yehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, the LORD look on it, and require it.
23 It happened at the end of the year, that the army of the Aram came up against him: and they came to Yehudah and Yerushalayim, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them to the king of Dammesek.
24 For the army of the Aram came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Yo'ash.
25 When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Yehoiada the Kohen, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they didn't bury him in the tombs of the kings.
26 These are those who conspired against him: Zavad the son of Shim`at the `Ammonite, and Yehozavad the son of Shimrit the Mo'avite.
