A Prophecy About Jerusalem

1 An oracle1 concerning the Valley2 of Vision:3 What troubles you now, that you have all gone up on the roofs,4 2 O town full of commotion, O city of tumult5 and revelry?6 Your slain7 were not killed by the sword,8 nor did they die in battle. 3 All your leaders have fled9 together; they have been captured10 without using the bow. All you who were caught were taken prisoner together, having fled while the enemy was still far away. 4 Therefore I said, "Turn away from me; let me weep11 bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people."12 5 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, has a day13 of tumult and trampling14 and terror15 in the Valley of Vision,16 a day of battering down walls17 and of crying out to the mountains. 6 Elam18 takes up the quiver,19 with her charioteers and horses; Kir20 uncovers the shield. 7 Your choicest valleys21 are full of chariots, and horsemen are posted at the city gates;22 8 the defenses of Judah are stripped away. And you looked in that day23 to the weapons24 in the Palace of the Forest;25
