The city is left in ruins,1 its gate2 is battered to pieces.
So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten,3 or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.414
They raise their voices, they shout for joy;5 from the west6 they acclaim the LORD's majesty.
Therefore in the east7 give glory8 to the LORD; exalt9 the name10 of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands11 of the sea.
From the ends of the earth12 we hear singing:13 "Glory14 to the Righteous One."15 But I said, "I waste away, I waste away!16 Woe17 to me! The treacherous18 betray! With treachery the treacherous betray!19"
Terror20 and pit and snare21 await you, O people of the earth.2218
Whoever flees23 at the sound of terror will fall into a pit;24 whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare.25 The floodgates of the heavens26 are opened, the foundations of the earth shake.2719
The earth is broken up,28 the earth is split asunder,29 the earth is thoroughly shaken.
The earth reels like a drunkard,30 it sways like a hut31 in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion32 that it falls33--never to rise again.3421
In that day35 the LORD will punish36 the powers37 in the heavens above and the kings38 on the earth below.
They will be herded together like prisoners39 bound in a dungeon;40 they will be shut up in prison and be punisheda after many days.41
