Isaiah 27:8-13 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
8 By warfarea and exile1 you contend with her-- with his fierce blast he drives her out, as on a day the east wind2 blows. 9 By this, then, will Jacob's guilt be atoned3 for, and this will be the full fruitage of the removal of his sin:4 When he makes all the altar stones5 to be like chalk stones crushed to pieces, no Asherah polesb6 or incense altars7 will be left standing. 10 The fortified city stands desolate,8 an abandoned settlement, forsaken9 like the desert; there the calves graze,10 there they lie down;11 they strip its branches bare. 11 When its twigs are dry, they are broken off12 and women come and make fires13 with them. For this is a people without understanding;14 so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator15 shows them no favor.16 12 In that day the LORD will thresh17 from the flowing Euphratesc to the Wadi of Egypt,18 and you, O Israelites, will be gathered19 up one by one. 13 And in that day20 a great trumpet21 will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled22 in Egypt23 will come and worship24 the LORD on the holy mountain25 in Jerusalem.
