Isaiah 40:13-23 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
13 Who has understood the minda1 of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?2 14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge3 or showed him the path of understanding?4 15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales;5 he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.6 16 Lebanon7 is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals8 enough for burnt offerings. 17 Before him all the nations9 are as nothing;10 they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.11 18 To whom, then, will you compare God?12 What image13 will you compare him to? 19 As for an idol,14 a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith15 overlays it with gold16 and fashions silver chains for it. 20 A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood17 that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol18 that will not topple.19 21 Do you not know? Have you not heard?20 Has it not been told21 you from the beginning?22 Have you not understood23 since the earth was founded?24 22 He sits enthroned25 above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.26 He stretches out the heavens27 like a canopy,28 and spreads them out like a tent29 to live in.30 23 He brings princes31 to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.32
