Who has done this and carried it through, calling1 forth the generations from the beginning?2 I, the LORD--with the first of them and with the last3--I am he.4"
The islands5 have seen it and fear; the ends of the earth6 tremble. They approach and come forward;
each helps the other and says to his brother, "Be strong!7"
The craftsman8 encourages the goldsmith,9 and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding, "It is good." He nails down the idol so it will not topple.108
"But you, O Israel, my servant,11 Jacob, whom I have chosen,12 you descendants of Abraham13 my friend,149
I took you from the ends of the earth,15 from its farthest corners I called16 you. I said, 'You are my servant';17 I have chosen18 you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear,19 for I am with you;20 do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen21 you and help22 you; I will uphold you23 with my righteous right hand.2411
"All who rage25 against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced;26 those who oppose27 you will be as nothing and perish.2812
Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them.29 Those who wage war against you will be as nothing30 at all.
For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand31 and says to you, Do not fear; I will help32 you.
Do not be afraid,33 O worm34 Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help35 you," declares the LORD, your Redeemer,36 the Holy One37 of Israel.
