"Forget the former things;1 do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!2 Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert3 and streams in the wasteland.420
The wild animals5 honor me, the jackals6 and the owls, because I provide water7 in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed8 for myself9 that they may proclaim my praise.1022
"Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, you have not wearied11 yourselves for me, O Israel.1223
You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings,13 nor honored14 me with your sacrifices.15 I have not burdened16 you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands17 for incense.1824
You have not bought any fragrant calamus19 for me, or lavished on me the fat20 of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied21 me with your offenses.2225
"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions,23 for my own sake,24 and remembers your sins25 no more.2626
Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together;27 state the case28 for your innocence.
Your first father29 sinned; your spokesmen30 rebelled31 against me.
So I will disgrace the dignitaries of your temple, and I will consign Jacob to destructiona32 and Israel to scorn.33
