No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding1 to say, "Half of it I used for fuel;2 I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable3 thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?"420
He feeds on ashes,5 a deluded6 heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, "Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?78"
"Remember9 these things, O Jacob, for you are my servant, O Israel.10 I have made you, you are my servant;11 O Israel, I will not forget you.1222
I have swept away13 your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return14 to me, for I have redeemed15 you."
Sing for joy,16 O heavens, for the LORD has done this; shout aloud, O earth17 beneath. Burst into song, you mountains,18 you forests and all your trees,19 for the LORD has redeemed20 Jacob, he displays his glory21 in Israel.
"This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer,22 who formed23 you in the womb:24 I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens,25 who spread out the earth26 by myself,
who foils27 the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners,28 who overthrows the learning of the wise29 and turns it into nonsense,3026
who carries out the words31 of his servants and fulfills32 the predictions of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem,33 'It shall be inhabited,' of the towns of Judah, 'They shall be built,' and of their ruins,34 'I will restore them,'3527
who says to the watery deep, 'Be dry, and I will dry up36 your streams,'
who says of Cyrus,37 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem,38 "Let it be rebuilt," and of the temple,39 "Let its foundations40 be laid." '
