Isaiah 57:8-18 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
8 Behind your doors and your doorposts you have put your pagan symbols. Forsaking me, you uncovered your bed, you climbed into it and opened it wide; you made a pact with those whose beds you love,1 and you looked on their nakedness.2 9 You went to Molecha3 with olive oil and increased your perfumes.4 You sent your ambassadorsb5 far away; you descended to the gravec6 itself ! 10 You were wearied7 by all your ways, but you would not say, 'It is hopeless.'8 You found renewal of your strength,9 and so you did not faint. 11 "Whom have you so dreaded and feared10 that you have been false to me, and have neither remembered11 me nor pondered12 this in your hearts? Is it not because I have long been silent13 that you do not fear me? 12 I will expose your righteousness and your works,14 and they will not benefit you. 13 When you cry out15 for help, let your collection [of idols] save16 you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow17 them away. But the man who makes me his refuge18 will inherit the land19 and possess my holy mountain."20
