I will tell of the kindnesses4 of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us-- yes, the many good things5 he has done for the house of Israel, according to his compassion6 and many kindnesses.
He said, "Surely they are my people,7 sons who will not be false to me"; and so he became their Savior.89
In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel9 of his presence10 saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed11 them; he lifted them up and carried12 them all the days of old.1310
Yet they rebelled14 and grieved his Holy Spirit.15 So he turned and became their enemy16 and he himself fought17 against them.
Then his people recalleda the days of old, the days of Moses and his people-- where is he who brought them through the sea,18 with the shepherd of his flock?19 Where is he who set his Holy Spirit20 among them,
who sent his glorious arm21 of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters22 before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown,2313
who led24 them through the depths?25 Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble;2614
like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest27 by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.
Look down from heaven28 and see from your lofty throne,29 holy and glorious. Where are your zeal30 and your might? Your tenderness and compassion31 are withheld32 from us.
But you are our Father,33 though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge34 us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer35 from of old is your name.
