for the head of Aram is Damascus,1 and the head of Damascus is only Rezin.2 Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered3 to be a people.
The head of Ephraim is Samaria,4 and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah's son. If you do not stand5 firm in your faith,6 you will not stand at all.' "710
Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,
"Ask the LORD your God for a sign,8 whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.9"
But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.10"
Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David!11 Is it not enough12 to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience13 of my God14 also?
Therefore the Lord himself will give youa a sign:15 The virgin16 will be with child and will give birth to a son,17 andb will call him Immanuel.c1815
He will eat curds19 and honey20 when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.
But before the boy knows21 enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,22 the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.2317
The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away24 from Judah--he will bring the king of Assyria.25"
In that day26 the LORD will whistle27 for flies from the distant streams of Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.28
