1 Kings 9:21

Their children that were left after them in the land
The posterity of those left unsubdued in the times of Joshua:

whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy;
in later times, though now it is thought by some it was not for want of power, but because they had made a covenant with them, as the Gibeonites did, and therefore they could not, because it would have been a breach of covenant to have destroyed them; see ( 2 Chronicles 8:8 ) ,

upon these did Solomon levy a tribute of bond service unto this day;
not a tribute of money, which being poor they were not able to pay, but of service, and which being once laid on was continued, and even to the time of the writing of this book.

19 asimismo todas las ciudades donde Salomón tenía municiones, y las ciudades de los carros, y las ciudades de la gente de a caballo, y todo lo que Salomón deseó edificar en Jerusalén, en el Líbano, y en toda la tierra de su señorío

20 A todos los pueblos que quedaron de los amorreos, heteos, ferezeos, heveos, jebuseos, que no fueron de los hijos de Israel

21 a sus hijos que quedaron en la tierra después de ellos, que los hijos de Israel no pudieron acabar, hizo Salomón que sirvieran con tributo hasta hoy

22 Mas a ninguno de los hijos de Israel impuso Salomón servicio, sino que eran hombres de guerra, o sus criados, o sus príncipes, o sus capitanes, o príncipes de sus carros, o su gente de a caballo

23 Y los que Salomón había hecho príncipes y prepósitos sobre las obras de Salomón, eran quinientos cincuenta, los cuales estaban sobre el pueblo que trabajaba en aquella obra
