Israel was holy1 to the LORD,2 the firstfruits3 of his harvest; all who devoured4 her were held guilty,5 and disaster overtook them,' " declares the LORD.

They did not ask, 'Where is the LORD, who brought us up out of Egypt8 and led us through the barren wilderness, through a land of deserts9 and rifts,10 a land of drought and darkness,a a land where no one travels11 and no one lives?'

I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce.12 But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable.138
The priests did not ask, 'Where is the LORD?' Those who deal with the law did not know me;14 the leaders15 rebelled against me. The prophets prophesied by Baal,16 following worthless idols.179
"Therefore I bring charges18 against you again," declares the LORD. "And I will bring charges against your children's children.

Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods21 at all.) But my people have exchanged theird Glory22 for worthless idols.

Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the LORD.

"My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken23 me, the spring of living water,24 and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
