and I gave this deed to Baruch1 son of Neriah,2 the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel and of the witnesses who had signed the deed and of all the Jews sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
"In their presence I gave Baruch these instructions:
'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed3 and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time.
For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.'416
"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch5 son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
"Ah, Sovereign LORD,6 you have made the heavens and the earth7 by your great power and outstretched arm.8 Nothing is too hard9 for you.
You show love10 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps11 of their children12 after them. O great and powerful God,13 whose name is the LORD Almighty,1419
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.15 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;16 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.1720
You performed miraculous signs and wonders18 in Egypt19 and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown20 that is still yours.
You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand21 and an outstretched arm22 and with great terror.2322
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.24
