Yet my people have forgotten4 me; they burn incense5 to worthless idols,6 which made them stumble7 in their ways and in the ancient paths.8 They made them walk in bypaths and on roads not built up.9
They said, "Come, let's make plans16 against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest17 will not be lost, nor will counsel from the wise,18 nor the word from the prophets.19 So come, let's attack him with our tongues20 and pay no attention to anything he says."
So give their children over to famine;26 hand them over to the power of the sword.27 Let their wives be made childless and widows;28 let their men be put to death, their young men29 slain by the sword in battle.
