Job 14:3-13 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
3 Do you fix your eye on such a one?1 Will you bring hima before you for judgment?2 4 Who can bring what is pure3 from the impure?4 No one!5 5 Man's days are determined;6 you have decreed the number of his months7 and have set limits he cannot exceed.8 6 So look away from him and let him alone,9 till he has put in his time like a hired man.10 7 "At least there is hope for a tree:11 If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots12 will not fail.13 8 Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump14 die in the soil, 9 yet at the scent of water15 it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.16 10 But man dies and is laid low;17 he breathes his last and is no more.18 11 As water disappears from the sea or a riverbed becomes parched and dry,19 12 so man lies down and does not rise;20 till the heavens are no more,21 men will not awake or be roused from their sleep.22 13 "If only you would hide me in the graveb23 and conceal me till your anger has passed!24 If only you would set me a time and then remember25 me!26
