View In My Bible
4 In the brush they gathered salt herbs,1 and their fooda was the root of the broom tree.2 5 They were banished from their fellow men, shouted at as if they were thieves. 6 They were forced to live in the dry stream beds, among the rocks and in holes in the ground.3 7 They brayed4 among the bushes5 and huddled in the undergrowth. 8 A base and nameless brood,6 they were driven out of the land.7 9 "And now their sons mock me8 in song;9 I have become a byword10 among them. 10 They detest me11 and keep their distance; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.12 11 Now that God has unstrung my bow13 and afflicted me,14 they throw off restraint15 in my presence. 12 On my right16 the tribeb attacks; they lay snares17 for my feet,18 they build their siege ramps against me.19 13 They break up my road;20 they succeed in destroying me21-- without anyone's helping them.c 14 They advance as through a gaping breach;22 amid the ruins they come rolling in.
