The true light1 that gives light to every man2 was coming into the world.a10
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him,3 the world did not recognize him.
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.412

children born not of natural descent,b nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.814
The Word became flesh9 and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,10 the glory of the One and Only,c who came from the Father, full of grace11 and truth.1215
John testifies13 concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' "1416
From the fullness15 of his grace16 we have all received one blessing after another.
For the law was given through Moses;17 grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.1818
