15 Now the Jordan¹ is at flood stage² all during harvest.³ Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing.⁴ It piled up in a heap⁵ a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan,⁶ while the water flowing down⁷ to the Sea of the Arabah⁸ (the Salt Sea^a⁹) was completely cut off.¹⁰ So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.¹¹
