Genesis 26:13 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 26:13

And the man waxed great
In substance, as well as in honour and glory, among men; and went forward;
in the world, and in the increase of worldly things: and grew until he became very great:
as he must needs be, since Abraham his father left him all that he had, who was very rich in cattle, in gold and silver, and had been increasing ever since; and especially since he came to Gerar, where he was gradually increasing, until he became to be exceeding great indeed, even the greatest man in all the country, yea, greater than King Abimelech himself, as it seems, from ( Genesis 26:16 ) .

Genesis 26:13 In-Context

11 Then Abimelech charged all the people, saying, He that touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land and received in the same year one hundred-fold, and the LORD blessed him.
13 And the man waxed great and went forward and grew until he became very great,
14 for he had possession of flocks, possession of herds, great store of servants, and the Philistines envied him.
15 For all the wells which his father’s slaves had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them and filled them with earth.
