John 7:32

32 The Pharisees heard the people that murmured such things concerning him, and the princes of the priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.

John 7:32 Meaning and Commentary

John 7:32

The Pharisees heard that the people murmured
Or whispered, privately talked among themselves:

such things concerning him;
as that surely he must be the Messiah, since such wonderful things were done by him, and might also express some uneasiness and surprise, that the rulers did not receive him as such:

and the Pharisees, and the chief priests, sent officers to take him:
and bring him before the sanhedrim, by them to be condemned, and so a stop be put to the people's receiving him, and believing in him as the Messiah; fearing, that should things go on at this rate, their principles and practices would be rejected, and their persons and authority be brought into contempt.

John 7:32 In-Context

30 Then they sought to take him, but no one laid hands on him because his hour was not yet come.
31 And many of the people believed in him and said, When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these which this man has done?
32 The Pharisees heard the people that murmured such things concerning him, and the princes of the priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.
33 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I shall be with you, and then I shall go unto him that sent me.
34 Ye shall seek me and shall not find me, and where I shall be, ye shall not be able to come.
