Luke 18:21 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 18:21

And he said
That is, the ruler said to him, as the Syriac and Ethiopic versions add; "to Jesus", as the Persic version expresses it;

all these have I kept from my youth up; (See Gill on Matthew 19:20) where it is added, what lack I yet?

Luke 18:21 In-Context

19 And Jesus said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? No one is good except one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
