Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORDdo that which is good in his sight.

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nighbefore the Syrians unto the battle; and they fledbefore him.

And when the children of Ammonsaw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fledbeforeAbishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joabcame to Jerusalem.

And when the Syrianssaw that they were put to the worsebeforeIsrael, they sentmessengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river:[a] and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

And it was toldDavid; and he gathered all Israel, and passed overJordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in arrayagainst the Syrians, they fought with him.

But the SyriansfledbeforeIsrael; and Davidslew of the Syriansseventhousand men which fought in chariots, and fortythousandfootmen*, and killedShophach the captain of the host.

And when the servants of Hadarezersaw that they were put to the worsebeforeIsrael, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrianshelp the children of Ammon any more.
