And Rehoboamwent to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israelcome to make him king.

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king,heard it, that Jeroboamreturned out of Egypt.

And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israelcame and spake to Rehoboam,saying,

Thy father made our yokegrievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievousservitude of thy father, and his heavyyoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

And he said unto them, Come again unto me after threedays. And the peopledeparted.

And kingRehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stoodbeforeSolomon his father while he yet lived,saying, What counsel give ye me to returnanswer to this people?

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speakgoodwords to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

But he forsook the counsel which the old mengave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stoodbefore him.
This chapter is not only in sense the same, but is expressed almost in the selfsame words as First Kings chapter twelve, verses one through nineteen, so there needs not anything to be added to the notes there, which the reader is referred to.
