1And as theyspakeunto the people, the priests,and the captaina of the temple,and the Sadducees, came uponthem,2
Being grievedthattheytaught the people,andpreachedthroughJesus the resurrectionfrom the dead.3And they laidhands on them,andput them inholdunto the next day:for it wasnoweventide.4Howbeitmany of them which heard the wordbelieved ; and the number of the menwasaboutfivethousand.5And it came to passon the morrow, that theirrulers,andelders,andscribes,6AndAnnas the high priest,andCaiaphas,andJohn,andAlexander,and as many aswereof the kindred of the high priest, were gathered togetheratJerusalem.7And when they had setthemin the midst, they asked , Bywhatpower,orbywhatname,haveyedonethis?8ThenPeter,filled with the HolyGhost,saiduntothem, Ye rulers of the people,andelders of Israel,9Ifwe this day be examinedof the good deed done to the impotentman,by what meanshe is made whole ;
10
Be itknown unto youall,and to all the people of Israel,thatby the name of JesusChrist of Nazareth,whomyecrucified , whomGodraisedfrom the dead, even byhimdoth this man stand herebeforeyouwhole.11Thisis the stonewhich was set at noughtofyoubuilders , which is become the headof the corner.12Neitheristheresalvationinanyother:for there isnoneothernameunderheavengivenamongmen,wherebywemust be saved .
13Now when they saw the boldness of PeterandJohn,andperceivedthat they wereunlearnedandignorantmen, they marvelled ; and they took knowledge of them,that they had beenwithJesus.14Andbeholding the man which was healedstandingwiththem, they couldsaynothing against it .
15But when they had commandedthem to go aside out of the council, they conferredamongthemselves,16Saying , What shall we do to thesemen?forthatindeed a notablemiracle hath been donebythem is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem;and we cannotdeny it.
17Butthat it spreadnofurtheramong the people, let us straitlythreatenthem, that they speakhenceforth to nomaninthisname.18And they calledthem, and commandedthemnot to speak at allnorteachin the name of Jesus.19ButPeterandJohnanswered and saiduntothem,Whether it beright in the sight of God to hearken unto you more thanuntoGod, judge ye .
20Forwecannotbutspeak the things which we have seenandheard .
21So when they had further threatened them , they letthemgo , findingnothinghow they might punishthem,because of the people:forall men glorifiedGodfor that which was done .
22For the manwasaboveforty years old,onwhomthismiracle of healing was shewed .
23And being let go , they wentto their own company,andreportedall that the chief priestsandelders had said untothem.24And when they heard that , they lifted up their voicetoGod with one accord,andsaid , Lord,thou art God,which hast madeheaven,andearth,and the sea,andall that in them is:25Whoby the mouth of thyservantDavid hast said , Whydid the heathenrage , and the peopleimagine vain things?26
The kings of the earth stood up , and the rulers were gatheredtogetheragainst the Lord,andagainsthisChrist.27Forof a truthagainstthyholychildJesus,whom thou hast anointed , bothHerod,andPontiusPilate,with the Gentiles,and the people of Israel, were gathered together ,
28
For to dowhatsoeverthyhandandthycounsel determined before to be done .
29Andnow,Lord,beholdtheirthreatenings:and grant untothyservants, that withallboldness they may speakthyword,30Bystretchingforththinehandtoheal;and that signsandwonders may be doneby the name of thyholychildJesus.31And when they had prayed , the place was shakenwheretheywere assembled together ; and they wereallfilled with the HolyGhost,and they spake the word of Godwithboldness.32And the multitude of them that believedwere of one heartand of onesoul:neithersaidany of them that ought of the things which hepossessedwas his own;buttheyhad all thingscommon.33And with greatpowergave the apostleswitness of the resurrection of the LordJesus:andgreatgracewasuponthemall.34Neitherwas there anyamongthem that lacked:for as many aswerepossessors of landsorhouses sold them , and brought the prices of the things that were sold ,
35And laid them downat the apostles'feet:and distribution was made unto every manaccordingas he hadneed .
36AndJoses,whoby the apostles was surnamedBarnabas, (which is , being interpreted , The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,37Havingland,sold it, and brought the money,andlaid it at the apostles'feet.
