Then the bandand the captainandofficers of the JewstookJesus,andboundhim,

AndledhimawaytoAnnasfirst;for he was father in law to Caiaphas,whichwas the high priest that sameyear.[a]

NowCaiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews,that it was expedient that oneman should diefor the people.

AndSimonPeterfollowedJesus,and so did anotherdisciple*: thatdisciplewasknown unto the high priest,and went in withJesusinto the palace of the high priest.

ButPeterstoodat the doorwithout.Then went out that otherdisciple,whichwasknown unto the high priest,andspake unto her that kept the door,and brought inPeter.

Thensaith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter,Artnotthoualso one ofthisman'sdisciples?Hesaith, I amnot.

And the servantsandofficers stood there, who had made a fire of coals;for it wascold:and they warmed themselves: andPeterstood*withthem,and warmed himself.

The high priestthenaskedJesusofhisdisciples,andofhisdoctrine.

Jesusansweredhim,Ispakeopenly to the world;Ievertaughtin the synagogue,andin the temple,whither the Jewsalwaysresort; andinsecret have I saidnothing.

Why askest thoume?ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them:behold,theyknowwhatIsaid.

And when hehadthusspoken, one of the officers which stood bystruck*Jesus with the palm of his hand*, saying, Answerest thou the high priestso?

Jesusansweredhim,If I have spokenevil, bear witnessof the evil:butifwell,whysmitest thou me?

Now Annas had senthimbounduntoCaiaphas the high priest.

AndSimonPeterstood*and warmed himself. They saidtherefore unto him,Artnotthoualso one ofhisdisciples?Hedenied it, andsaid, I amnot.

Oneof the servants of the high priest,being his kinsmanwhoseearPeter cut off, saith, DidnotIseetheein the gardenwithhim?

Peterthendeniedagain:andimmediately the cockcrew.

Then led theyJesusfromCaiaphasunto the hall of judgment:and it wasearly;and they themselveswentnotinto the judgment hall,lest they should be defiled; butthat they might eat the passover.

Pilatethen went outuntothem,andsaid, Whataccusation bring yeagainstthisman?

They answeredandsaid unto him,Ifhewerenot a malefactor, we wouldnot have deliveredhimup unto thee.

ThensaidPilate unto them,Takeyehim,andjudgehimaccording to yourlaw. The Jewsthereforesaid unto him, It isnotlawful for us to put any man to death:

That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifyingwhatdeath he shoulddie.

ThenPilateenteredinto the judgment hallagain,andcalledJesus,andsaid unto him,Artthou the King of the Jews?

Jesusansweredhim,Sayestthou this thingofthyself,or did others tell ittheeofme?

Pilateanswered*, AmI a Jew? Thine ownnationand the chief priests have deliveredthee unto me:what hast thou done?

Jesusanswered, Mykingdomisnotofthisworld:ifmykingdomwereofthisworld, then wouldmyservantsfight, that I shouldnot be delivered to the Jews:butnowismykingdomnot from hence.

Pilatethereforesaid unto him,Artthou a kingthen?Jesusanswered, ThousayestthatIam a king.Tothis end wasIborn, andforthis cause came Iinto the world,that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that isof the truthhearethmyvoice.

Pilatesaith unto him,Whatistruth?And when he had saidthis, he went outagainunto the Jews,andsaith unto them,Ifindinhimnofault at all.

Butyehave a custom,that I should release unto youoneat the passover: will yetherefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

Then cried theyallagain,saying, Not this man,butBarabbas.NowBarabbaswas a robber.
