And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said , That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in , and danced , and pleased Herod and them that sat with him , the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt , and I will give it thee.
And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked , saying , I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him , he would not reject her.
And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought : and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten : and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.
But Pilate answered them, saying , Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
And began to salute him, Hail , King of the Jews!
And the superscription of his accusation was written over , THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe . And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
