John 14:4

4 And you know the way where I am going."

John 14:4 Meaning and Commentary

John 14:4

And whither I go ye know
They might have known, at least, whither he was going, since he had spoke of his Father's house, and of his going to prepare a place for them there, and doubtless had some knowledge thereof, though very confused and imperfect:

and the way ye know:
this also they might have known from some expressions of his, that the way to his Father's house lay through sufferings and death, in which way they also were to follow him to his kingdom and glory. Though these words may be with an interrogation, "and whither I go do ye know? and the way do ye know?" which best agrees with Thomas's answer, and removes all appearance of contradiction between Christ's words and his.

John 14:4 In-Context

2 In my Father's house there are many dwelling places; but if not, I would have told you, because I am going away to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also.
4 And you know the way where I am going."
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How are we able to know the way?"
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
