Have we not all one Fathera ?5 Did not one God create us?6 Why do we profane the covenant7 of our fathers by breaking faith8 with one another?
Judah has broken faith. A detestable9 thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD loves,10 by marrying11 the daughter of a foreign god.1212
As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the LORD cut him off13 from the tents of Jacobb14--even though he brings offerings15 to the LORD Almighty.
Another thing you do: You flood the LORD's altar with tears.16 You weep and wail17 because he no longer pays attention18 to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.1914
You ask,20 "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness21 between you and the wife of your youth,22 because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.2315
Has not [the LORD] made them one?24 In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring.c25 So guard yourself26 in your spirit, and do not break faith27 with the wife of your youth.
"I hate divorce,28" says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himselfd with violence29 as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit,30 and do not break faith.
You have wearied31 the LORD with your words. "How have we wearied him?" you ask.32 By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased33 with them" or "Where is the God of justice?34"
