1 Chronicles 29:18 Meaning and Commentary

1 Chronicles 29:18

O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers,
&c:] The ancestors of the Jewish nation, whose covenant God the Lord was, and who had ever been mindful of his promise to them, with respect to them their seed:

keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of
thy people;
let the same disposition of mind always continue in them to serve the Lord their God:

and prepare their heart unto thee;
incline and dispose their minds always to fear the Lord, and obey his will.

1 Chronicles 29:18 In-Context

18 O God, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this generous spirit alive forever in these people always, keep their hearts set firmly in you.
19 And give my son Solomon an uncluttered and focused heart so that he can obey what you command, live by your directions and counsel, and carry through with building The Temple for which I have provided."
20 David then addressed the congregation: "Bless God, your God!" And they did it, blessed God, the God of their ancestors, and worshiped reverently in the presence of God and the king.
