1 John 3:10-20

10 By this the 1children of God and the 2children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who 3does not love his 4brother.
11 5For this is the message 6which you have heard from the beginning, 7that we should love one another;
12 not as 8Cain, who was of 9the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because 10his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
13 Do not be surprised, brethren, if 11the world hates you.
14 We know that we have 12passed out of death into life, 13because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
15 Everyone who 14hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that 15no * murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16 We know love by this, that 16He laid down His life for us; and 17we ought to lay down our lives for the 18brethren.
17 But 19whoever * has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and 20closes his heart against him, 21how does the love of God abide in him?
18 22Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and 23truth.
19 We will know by this that we are 24of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him
20 in whatever * * our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
