John 3:11-18

1For this is the message 2which you have heard from the beginning, 3that we should love one another;
not as 4Cain, who was of 5the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because 6his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
Do not be surprised, brethren, if 7the world hates you.
We know that we have 8passed out of death into life, 9because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
Everyone who 10hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that 11no * murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
We know love by this, that 12He laid down His life for us; and 13we ought to lay down our lives for the 14brethren.
But 15whoever * has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and 16closes his heart against him, 17how does the love of God abide in him?
18Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and 19truth.
