1Therefore1when we could endure it nolonger, we thought it best to be leftbehind at 2Athensalone,
and we sent3Timothy, our brother and God'sfellowworker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith,
so that noone would be adisturbed by theseafflictions; for you yourselvesknow that 4we have been destined for this.
For indeedwhen we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to sufferaffliction; b5and so it came to pass, cas you know.
For thisreason, 6when I could endure it nolonger, I also7sent to dfind out about your faith, for fear that 8the tempter might have tempted you, and 9our labor would be in vain.
But now that 10Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us goodnews of 11your faith and love, and that you always12thinkkindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,
