31not addicted to wineaorpugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, 2free from the love of money.
He must be one who 3manages his ownhouseholdwell, keeping his childrenundercontrol with alldignity5
(but if a man does not knowhow to manage his ownhousehold, how will he takecare of 4the church of God?),
and not a newconvert, so that he will not become 5conceited and fall into the 6condemnationbincurred by the devil.
And he must7have a goodreputation with 8thoseoutside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and 9the snare of the devil.
810Deaconslikewise must be men of dignity, not cdouble-tongued, d11oraddicted to muchwinee12orfond of sordidgain,
913but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clearconscience.
1014These men must alsofirst be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyondreproach.
11fWomen must likewise be dignified, 15not maliciousgossips, but 16temperate, faithful in allthings.
1217Deacons must be 18husbands of only onewife, and g19goodmanagers of their children and their ownhouseholds.
