8 1Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not adouble-tongued, b2or addicted to much wine c3or fond of sordid gain, 9 4but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 5These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. 11 dWomen must likewise be dignified, 6not malicious gossips, but 7temperate, faithful in all things. 12 8Deacons must be 9husbands of only one wife, and e10good managers of their children and their own households. 13 For those who have served well as deacons 11obtain for themselves a fhigh standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 14 I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; 15 but gin case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how hone ought to conduct himself in 12the household of God, which is the 13church of 14the living God, the 15pillar and support of the truth. 16 By common confession, great is 16the mystery of godliness: He who was 17revealed in the flesh, Was i18vindicated jin the Spirit, 19Seen by angels, 20Proclaimed among the nations, 21Believed on in the world, 22Taken up in glory.
