When Jeroboam the son of Nebatheard of it (for 2he was in Egyptwhere he had fled from the presence of KingSolomon ), Jeroboamreturned from Egypt.

So they sent and summoned him. When Jeroboam and allIsraelcame, they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

"Your fathermade our 3yokehard; now therefore lighten the hardservice of your father and his heavyyokewhich he put on us, and we will serve you."

He said to them, "Return to me again in threedays." So the peopledeparted.

Then KingRehoboam4consulted with the elderswhohadserved* his fatherSolomon while he was still alive, saying, "How do you counsel me to answer*thispeople?"
This chapter is not only in sense the same, but is expressed almost in the selfsame words as First Kings chapter twelve, verses one through nineteen, so there needs not anything to be added to the notes there, which the reader is referred to.
