"Thereforetakeheed, so that the thingspoken of 1in the Prophets may not come upon you:

'2BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORKWHICH YOU WILL NEVER*BELIEVE, THOUGHSOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.' "

As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that thesethings might be spoken to them the next3Sabbath.

Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the 4God-fearing5proselytesfollowedPaul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in 6the grace of God.
Paul Turns to the Gentiles
44 The next7Sabbathnearly the wholecityassembled to hear the word of the Lord.

But when 8the Jewssaw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the thingsspoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.

Paul and Barnabasspoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you 9first; since you repudiate it and judgeyourselvesunworthy* of eternallife, behold, 10we are turning to the Gentiles.

"For so the Lord has commanded us, '11I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A 12LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING*SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.' "

When the Gentilesheard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying13the word of the Lord; and as many as 14had beenappointed to eternallifebelieved.

And 15the word of the Lord was being spreadthrough the wholeregion.

But 16the Jewsincited the 17devoutwomen18of prominence and the leadingmen of the city, and instigated a persecutionagainstPaul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.
