6A visionappeared to Paul in the night: a man of 7Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Comeover to Macedonia and help us."

When he had seen8the vision, immediately9we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to 10preach the gospel to them.

Soputting out to sea from 11Troas, we ran12a straightcourse to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis;

and from there to 13Philippi, which is a leadingcity of the district of 14Macedonia, 15a Roman colony; and we were staying in thiscity for somedays.

And on 16the Sabbathday we wentoutside the gate to a riverside*, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we satdown and began speaking to the women who had assembled.
First Convert in Europe
14 A womannamedLydia, from the city of 17Thyatira, a seller of purplefabrics, 18a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord19opened her heart to respond to the thingsspoken by Paul.

And when she and 20her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us.

It happened that as we were going to 21the place of prayer, a slave-girlhaving22a spirit of divinationmet us, who was bringing her mastersmuchprofit by fortune-telling.

FollowingafterPaul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "Thesemen are bond-servants of 23the MostHighGod, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation."
