102The brethrenimmediatelysent3Paul and Silasaway by night to 4Berea, and when they arrived, they went into 5the synagogue of the Jews.

Nowthese were morenoble-minded than those in 6Thessalonica, for they received the word with greateagerness, examining the Scripturesdaily* to see whetherthesethings were so.

Therefore7many of them believed, along with a number* of 8prominentGreek9women and men.

But when the Jews of 10Thessalonicafound out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul in 11Bereaalso, they camethere as well, agitating and stirring up the crowds.

Thenimmediately12the brethrensentPaul out to go as far as the sea; and 13Silas and 14Timothyremainedthere.

Now15those who escortedPaulbrought him as far as 16Athens; and receiving a command for 17Silas and Timothy to 18come to him as soon as possible, they left.

16Now while Paul was waiting for them at 19Athens, his spirit was being provokedwithin him as he was observing the cityfull of idols.

So he was reasoning20in the synagogue with the Jews and 21the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplaceeveryday with those who happened to be present.

And alsosome of the Epicurean and Stoicphilosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, "What would 22thisidlebabblerwish to say?" Others*, "He seems to be a proclaimer of strangedeities,"-because he was preaching23Jesus and the resurrection.

And they 24took him and brought him to the 25Areopagus, saying, "May we knowwhat26thisnewteaching is which you are proclaiming?
