But when Paul was about to 2open his mouth, Galliosaid to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrongor of viciouscrime, OJews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you;

but if there are 3questionsaboutwords and names and your own law, lookafter it yourselves; I amunwilling* to be a judge of these matters."

And they alltookhold of 5Sosthenes, 6the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of 7the judgmentseat. But Gallio was not concerned about any of thesethings.

Paul, having remainedmanydayslonger, 8tookleave of 9the brethren and put out to sea for 10Syria, and with him were 11Priscilla and 12Aquila. In 13Cenchrea he 14had his haircut, for he was keeping a vow.

They came to 15Ephesus, and he left them there. Now he himselfentered16the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

When they asked him to stay for a longertime, he did not consent,

but 17takingleave of them and saying, "I will return to you again18if Godwills," he setsail from 19Ephesus.

When he had landed at 20Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and wentdown to 21Antioch.
